What is a leaky gut?
Leaky Gut is linked to autoimmune conditions, diabetes, liver disease, and various health issues. This test measures intestinal permeability by detecting Occludin and Zonulin proteins in your blood, indicating gut cell junction breakdown. It also checks for Candida overgrowth, common due to antibiotic use, and for pro-inflammatory bacteria/endotoxins. The presence of LPS in the blood suggests gut dysbiosis, indicating an imbalanced microbiome.
Occludin
Occludin is a crucial protein for tight junction function. Research indicates that occludin plays a key role in maintaining the stability and barrier function of tight junctions, rather than in their initial assembly.
Zonulin
Zonulin is a protein that increases the permeability of tight junctions between cells of the wall of the digestive tract
Candida
Candida is yeast, a type of fungus, that that is typically found in small amounts on your mouth, skin and in your intestines. Healthy bacteria in your body (microbiome) control the balance of Candida. Often when Candida is off-balance, the yeast overgrows and causes infection
LPS
Lipopolysaccharides are large molecules consisting of a lipid and a polysaccharide that are bacterial toxins.
